Botanicals

Marion Adler

Marion Adler is an award winning lyricist and actor, known to many for her number of seasons at the Stratford Festival. She has called Stratford her home for a number of years and her friends and acquaintances know her as a woman of many talents. Marion is also an artist whose work in graphite are highly skilled, beautifully rendered portraits taken from old family photos.  She has also recently been producing origami birds that she hand paints in intricate patterns, each one different from the other, a little gem in its own right.  In the last few months Marion has turned her hand to a different medium, hand tinting photos of flowers. Each photo started as one of Marion's coloured photos of flowers from her garden or  from the florist shop. She has the photo reproduced in black and white and printed on a paper that allows for colour to be added and then hand tints the photo with watercolour and in some cases coloured pencil. The hand tinting allows for a softer rendering of the colours and in some cases a slight change of colour where she feels she wants it.  The results are beautiful botanical studies.

New Work

Michelina Williamson

We are pleased to have received seven recently
painted works in acrylic by Stratford artist,
Michelina Williamson. Some of the paintings are
inspired by her travels and two will be readily
identifiable as Stratford scenes. All are infused with
her rich bold colours. In Michelina's words:

"I use a minimalist approach to painting in that I strip down a scene or subject to its essence.
Then I use only what I feel is necessary to convey the emotion held within and infuse those
elements with rich, bold colours. I work from sketches, photos and my imagination to create
art that you can feel. My painting process is a delicate balance between colour and composition
choices and the intuitive expression of paint application."
