Michelle Salter
Local artist, Michelle Salter's newest works are in encaustic, also known as hot wax painting. This is a very old method of painting and is done by adding coloured pigments to beeswax and applying the hot wax to a prepared board or canvas. In Michelle's work she uses a combination of beeswax, damar resin and oil paint. Michelle likes the encaustic medium for its luminous colours, its lustre and its highly textured surface, all of the qualities visible in the two works shown here.
